INTERNSHIPS
Internships are open to any artist looking to learn while they work. Students, recent grads, and printmakers alike are all welcome to apply. EFA RBPMW internship program is designed to be an enriching educational experience. Positions are available as a Studio & Administrative Intern, Teaching Assistant Intern, and Archive Assistant Intern.
GUIDELINES
Academic credit arrangements for the internship must be made by the student. All paperwork for credit exchange is to be completed at the beginning of the internship period.
All interns receive studio access with an exchange of 2 studio hours for every hour of interning. All internships are unpaid.
Students, recent grads, and printmakers alike are all welcome to apply!
Studio and Administrative Internship
Studio Internships are in person for a minimum of 2 days per week for a three-month commitment. Interns must be available to work during office hours (12 pm - 7 pm, Wednesday - Sunday).
Help run the 6,000sq ft community printshop and assist our 250+ active members with day to day tasks like signing in members and selling materials, to setting up presses and troubleshooting printing issues.
This is a hands-on internship: expect to assist on contract printing jobs, RBPMW publications, stone preparation, photolitho plate production, exhibition installation, and curating and packing prints in the archives. Learn administrative tasks from processing memberships, inventory, updating the printshop’s website, and designing posters.
Opportunities to learn and develop a range of techniques in riso, screenprinting, lithography, letterpress, relief, and intaglio.
Teaching Assistant Internship
Teaching Assistant Internships are a commitment of at least 3 months. This internship can be flexible, and will depend on our class schedule; classes are typically 3-4 hour sessions and occur on weekday afternoons, nights, and weekends.
Gain experience assisting on-site and off-site printmaking workshops while learning techniques and theories from renowned printmakers.
Help instructors prepare before and after class by setting up presses, preparing materials, printing out handouts, taking attendance, removing blankets from presses, cleaning up rollers, brayers, palette knives, glass slabs, and putting materials away.
Assist with administrative tasks such as conducting quick safety tours to the printshop, processing student memberships, selling materials, and collecting student evaluation forms at the end of the course.

Archive Assistant Internship
The Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop (RBPMW) was founded in 1947 by Robert Blackburn, one of the most prominent African American artist/printmakers of the past century for the advancement of printmaking as a fine art medium. His workshop produced a variety of works that are housed in the historic RBPMW Archive. These works are in need of organization for educational and historical purposes. The Archive Assistant Internship would help prepare this collection for public viewing.
Responsibilities include assisting in the archiving of RBPMW prints such as: cataloging, photographing, packing, and conservation.
Skills requirements: Computer literate (Mac and PC), able to handle fine art prints, digital photography and web skills a plus.
